How would you capture the magic of Christmas? Maybe it’s the tantalising taste of warm mince pies and fragrant cinnamon-spiced mulled wine. The thought of glittering fairy lights creating a comforting glow in the cold night sky. Would you bottle the scent of fresh pine from decorated trees? Or reminiscence over photographs of festive family traditions, still continued.
For me, the true spirit of Christmas is all about the 3 F’s, namely ‘Family, Friends and Food’ (ok, now I sound like an episode of ‘Nigella’s Christmas Kitchen!’). However, my favourite Yuletide memories are usually the ones that combine all three – my Aunt cooking a turkey upside down was a classic…just don’t ask!
If like me, and you or your loved ones, have a fondness for festive foodie treats (try saying that after a few glasses of eggnog), then the Cardiff Christmas Market should be at the top of your ‘to do’ list in December.
I was recently asked by Visit Cardiff to explore the amazing array of independent food and drink producers exhibiting at this year’s market.
The Melted Cheese Company | Traditional Raclette served with crushed baby potatoes in a garlic and chive butter | £6
Vivo Los Churros
Krakauer, Bratwurst, Currywurst and Käsekrainer sausages | £5
Koko Kitchen | Strawberry & Champagne, Sea-salted Caramel and Double Chocolate Brownies
Crafty Devil Brewing Co. | Safe As Milk, Rock N’ Roll Star, Free Bird and Mikey Rayer All Dayer
These are a selection of the independent food and drink producers exhibiting at the market, so my advice is to head on down to The Hayes and explore all of the delicious delights on offer.
